About the opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Management Accountant to join the Finance team within the Corporate and Commercial Division. This is a term vacancy until 21st of July 2028.

The Management Accountant is responsible for coordinating and delivering expert financial support, management reporting, budgeting, compliance monitoring and financial advice that contributes to the achievement of the department's financial strategies and objectives.

This role provides dedicated account management support to one of the department's divisions and plays a key role in supporting critical finance functions, including whole of department reporting obligations, annual financial statement preparation, and ongoing financial system administration. The successful applicant will also contribute to significant whole of government financial initiatives and support informed decision making through the provision of high quality financial analysis and reporting.

Key Duties:

  • Provide expert budget management, financial reporting and account management services to assigned business areas.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analysis and commentary for management and executive stakeholders.
  • Contribute to whole of department financial reporting requirements, including reporting to the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Audit Office of South Australia.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual audited financial statements and audit processes.
  • Provide financial analysis and expert input into funding submissions, business cases and parliamentary briefings.
  • Support the administration and continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and reporting tools.
  • Develop positive working relationships with stakeholders and provide trusted financial advice across the department.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance team.

Key Selection Criteria:

Please only address the dot points listed below in your application:

  • Experience in the delivery of a comprehensive range of financial services, management reporting and budgeting services and processes.
  • Experience in the processes involved in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements.
  • Experience in the use of computerised accounting and financial systems and PC based software applications including undertaking the extraction and manipulation of data from entity-based data warehouse facilities and developing and disseminating system documentation and training.
  • Experience in the use of spreadsheets to prepare budgets and financial statements, conduct variance analysis on budgeted, estimated and actual results and use reporting systems to extract and prepare financial information and analysis work.
  • A detailed knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurer’s Instructions,  financial management principles, financial analysis and management reporting techniques and their application in a Government organisation.
  • Ability to understand the needs of diverse customers/stakeholders and successfully balance their competing demands.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in written form, effectively with a wide range of people, adapting style to match the audience and the situation.

Qualifications:

Essential: Relevant degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or equivalent.

Remuneration:

Classification: ASO6
$105,747 to $111,854 per annum (plus superannuation)
Full time role
Working 37.5 hours per week.
Term vacancy until 21 July 2028

  • Some out of hours work may be required during peak financial reporting periods.
