The Invasive Species Unit leads the management of declared weeds and vertebrate pests under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019, as well as aquatic pests under the Fisheries Management Act 2007. Working closely with regional landscape boards, the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), and interstate counterparts, the Unit delivers coordinated, strategic responses to new pest incursions and ongoing management of priority species.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Biosecurity Projects Officer – Pest Animals to manage a small team of professional and operational staff and drive the development and delivery of targeted pest animal management programs. A key focus of this role is supporting groups undertaking pest animal control initiatives and leading the creation of large‑scale pest animal projects, including securing external funding to bring these projects to life.

This position plays an important part in achieving the agency’s priorities: stimulating growth and value, sustaining natural resources, and managing risk and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team delivering landscape‑scale pest animal management programs.
  • Develop major pest animal projects and secure external funding to support delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with regional landscape boards, state and local governments, land managers, community groups and the broader public.
  • Manage project planning and implementation, including procurement, contract management, technical advice, extension materials, and project budgets.
  • Provide expert guidance on pest animal management and contribute to strategic biosecurity initiatives.

About You

You will bring strong project management skills, experience working with diverse stakeholders, and the ability to lead operational teams. A sound understanding of the Landscape South Australia Act 2019 and familiarity with relevant state and national legislative frameworks is essential, given the increasingly complex regulatory environment.
