About the Role:

The Senior Media Advisor reports to the department’s Manager, Media and is responsible for managing and coordinating a range of media and communication services for the department in addition to developing and maintaining strong relationships with media contacts across the state.  The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the department attracts appropriate levels of media coverage relating to its projects and initiatives and for ensuring that the department is able to effectively respond to media issues and/or enquiries and to manage associated risks within the confines of media deadlines. The role also produces content for the department’s owned communications channels including web and social.

Contract: Temporary Backfill Contract for up to 6 months

Desirable Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, public relations, communications, or related discipline is desirable.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
  • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.
  • May be required to participate in an on call roster.
  • This role has been identified as a Position of Trust
    Prior to being employed, the successful candidate will be required to provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), which is required to be renewed every three years. DEW will cover the cost of renewal. 

A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.

Remuneration: ASO6 ($102,171 min - $108,071 max) p.a.
