About the opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Manager Power Systems and Market Modelling (PO5) to lead the strategic planning and delivery of critical power system analysis, energy market modelling and forecasting initiatives that influence South Australia's least-cost energy system.

Reporting to the Director, Analytics and Planning, this role leads a multidisciplinary team of specialists and provides authoritative advice on power system security, network and generation development, energy market outcomes, forecasting, emerging risks and demand growth. The position plays a key leadership role in informing policy, planning and investment decisions that support an affordable, reliable, secure and low-emissions energy future for South Australia.

Key Duties:

• Lead and direct complex power system analysis, energy market modelling and forecasting programs that inform South Australia's energy future.
• Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, modellers and analysts, ensuring delivery of high-quality technical advice and analysis.
• Oversee power system planning studies, network analysis and research to support system security and the integration of renewable energy, storage and distributed energy resources.
• Lead the development and maintenance of energy market models, forecasts, cost models and energy balances.
• Integrate technical and economic modelling to assess generation, storage, network and demand growth scenarios.
• Provide expert advice on emerging power system and market conditions, risks and opportunities.
• Ensure robust governance, quality assurance and management of complex energy datasets and modelling assumptions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, consultants and government agencies.
• Represent the Department and South Australia on national and international forums, committees and conferences.

Key Selection Criteria:

Please only address the dot points listed below in your application:

• Demonstrated expertise across power system operation and energy market modelling, with extensive knowledge in at least one discipline and a strong understanding of the other.
• Significant capacity to interpret highly complex technical and economic analysis and translate findings into evidence-based policy, planning and investment advice.
• Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex programs, projects or services.
• Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence outcomes across industry and government.

Qualifications:

Essential: Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics or a related discipline, with extensive recognised expertise relevant to power systems and/or energy market modelling.

Desirable: Accreditation as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng).

Remuneration:
PO5 classification
$136,746 to $149,562 per annum (plus superannuation)
Full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.
