About the opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Renewables Inspector (ASO7) within the Office of the Technical Regulator. This role provides expert regulatory oversight and authoritative technical advice to support the safe installation, operation and compliance of renewable energy systems across South Australia.

Working in a dynamic and evolving sector, you will undertake audits and investigations, provide specialist advice on renewable energy technologies and electrical safety matters, and contribute to the development of regulatory practices and industry standards. You will play a key role in safeguarding public safety while supporting the growth of a safe, reliable and sustainable renewable energy industry.

Key Duties:

• Deliver risk based audits of renewable energy installations to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and applicable standards.
• Lead and coordinate complex investigations relating to renewable energy systems, electrical safety incidents and compliance breaches.
• Provide expert technical advice and guidance on renewable energy systems, electrical installations and safety requirements.
• Exercise delegated statutory powers and undertake Authorised Officer functions under relevant legislation.
• Represent the Office of the Technical Regulator on industry, government and standards committees.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry participants, government agencies and stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development and review of Australian Standards and technical requirements for renewable energy systems.
• Support industry capability and compliance through engagement, education and regulatory guidance.

The Regulation and Compliance division deliver effective regulation to support the safe, responsible and sustainable development of South Australia's energy and mineral resources and infrastructure networks. It manages tenure, oversees activities across the project lifecycle, and regulates technical and safety standards, protecting the community and environment.

The Office of the Technical Regulator regulates safety and technical standards for electrical, gas and plumbing installations and appliances, as well as electricity, gas, water and sewerage network infrastructure, ensuring systems are safe, reliable and compliant.

Key Selection Criteria:

Please only address the dot points listed below in your application:

• Demonstrated experience applying and interpreting electrical installation legislation, regulations, standards and compliance requirements.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in renewable energy systems including solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage, inverter and stand alone power systems.
• Demonstrated experience conducting complex investigations and determining appropriate regulatory outcomes.
• Proven ability to provide authoritative technical advice and effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Desirable:

• Trade qualification and/or post trade qualification in electrical or a related discipline.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in renewable energy power systems.
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
• Solar Accreditation Training relevant to solar, battery and stand alone power systems.

Remuneration:
ASO7 Classification
$116,089 - $125,490 per annum (plus superannuation)
Full time role working 37.5 hours per week.

Special Conditions:

• This position is a designated position and requires a satisfactory National Police Clearance.
• Participation in an after hours on call roster and occasional weekend work will be required.
• Some intrastate and interstate travel, including overnight absences, may be required.
• Participation in emergency management and disaster recovery activities will be required.
• Site inspections may occur across residential, commercial, industrial and construction environments.
