About the opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Cabinet and Parliament Officer (ASO5) within the Office of the Chief Executive on a term contract until 25 August 2028. This role offers the opportunity to work at the centre of government, supporting critical Cabinet, parliamentary and ministerial processes that contribute to the delivery of government priorities.


Key Duties:

  • Coordinate and manage Cabinet submissions, Cabinet notes, comments and forward planning processes.
  • Administer parliamentary business, including briefing notes, Questions with and without Notice, parliamentary enquiries and Hansard matters.
  • Provide quality assurance, advice and support to departmental staff to ensure compliance with government writing and style requirements.
  • Coordinate sensitive and confidential ministerial, cabinet and parliamentary requests within tight deadlines.
  • Maintain effective relationships with ministerial offices, government agencies and departmental stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight and advice regarding departmental boards and committees.
  • Coordinate briefing materials and support documentation for Country Cabinet meetings.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support broader Executive Services activities.

The Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) is responsible for delivering professional, strategic and responsive executive support services to the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and wider department. The team drives the strategic priorities and objectives of the department and government and leads the department's ministerial, Parliament and Cabinet functions.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience coordinating parliamentary and cabinet business and supporting the ministerial decision-making process.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret information from multiple sources to identify key issues, inconsistencies and organisational impacts.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing thoroughly researched and targeted documents that are expressed concisely and reflect style, tone, and standards of the department.
  • Well developed communication skills, including the ability to build productive stakeholder relationships and provide quality advice on sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality outcomes within tight timeframes and under limited direction.

Essential: Nil. 


Remuneration:
ASO5 classification
$92,122 to $102,456 per annum (plus superannuation)
Term vacancy up to 25 August 2028
Full-time role (37.5 hours a week)

Special Conditions:
Appointment subject to a satisfactory screening check.
Out of hours work may be required, particularly during peak Cabinet and parliamentary periods.
Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated with the successful applicant.
