The Opportunity

Join a frontline team protecting South Australia’s environment, economy and communities.

The primary purpose of the two Casual positions are to deliver effective inspection services to ensure that all Plant Material (including fruit & vegetables), Animals, Machinery, and Soils meet legislative entry requirements. Non-compliance is identified and managed through redirection, seizure, destruction, or return to the State of Origin.

These hands-on roles play a critical part in safeguarding the state while supporting safe trade and movement.

  • Contribute to securing production through biosecurity
  • Support sustainable use of resources and market access
  • Deliver frontline inspection and compliance services
  • Work closely with travellers, industry and government agencies

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Quarantine Station Inspector, you will:

  • Inspect plant material, animals, machinery and soil, ensuring entry requirements are met and taking appropriate action when non-compliance is identified
  • Enforce relevant legislation (Plant Health Act & Livestock Act 1997), including gathering and recording evidence
  • Provide quarantine inspection and notification services as a first line of defence
  • Build trust and credibility through clear communication and strong customer service
  • Monitor movements and report intelligence to strengthen state-wide biosecurity efforts

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Two casual opportunities up to May 2027, working irregular hours.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
  • Have, or agree to acquire the Provide First Aid Certificate.

 Remuneration

OPS2 - $32.81 min - $34.33 max per hour plus a 25% casual loading and plus superannuation
