About the role
Provide clinical support to the Plastics Surgery service at the Women's and Children's Hospital as a pre-vocational surgical trainee, contributing to inpatient and outpatient care under consultant supervision. Demonstrate commitment to clinical learning, teaching and participation in research activities.
Key duties of the role
- Provide safe, effective inpatient and outpatient Plastic Surgery care for paediatric patients at WCH, including emergency, elective and on-call surgical responsibilities under consultant supervision.
- Deliver comprehensive perioperative care, including assessment, investigation, documentation and coordination of patient flow from admission through to discharge.
- Manage and respond to acute Plastic Surgery presentations, including interpretation of investigations and provision of clinical advice within a supervised registrar framework.
- Contribute to education, training and clinical supervision of junior medical staff and students, while actively participating in teaching programs, grand rounds and professional development.
- Engage in quality improvement, clinical audit and research activities, supporting evidence-based practice, guideline development and continuous service improvement.
Skills and Experience
- MBBS (or equivalent) with eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a medical practitioner.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in surgical settings, including operating theatres, outpatient clinics and inpatient ward management.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive, complex information and engage effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, managing workload and meeting clinical deadlines.
- Sound understanding of patient rights and responsibilities, with a strong commitment to delivering safe, high-quality surgical care.
