About the Opportunity

 

This is a unique opportunity for a graduate solicitor to work on interesting and challenging legal and legal policy matters within the Office of the Chief Executive in the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD). Working closely in a small team with the Special Counsel to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for providing advice and assistance in a variety of matters, including:

  • Researching and preparing legal advice to the Minister, Chief Executive, or other senior members of Government on the many and varied matters arising within the Chief Executive’s Office including Parole Board applications, criminal justice visa applications, burials and exhumations, reviews of freedom of information determinations and First Nations Voice to Parliament
  • Preparing briefings for Parliament and Cabinet submissions, including for judicial and statutory appointments and in relation to other issues impacting the administration of justice
  • Assisting in statutory reviews and maintaining a register of legislative obligations for the Minister and Department
  • Short term projects or matters arising in the Attorney-General’s Department, subject to interest and capacity

About the Business

The Office of the Chief Executive is responsible for providing support, advice, assurance, risk management and intergovernmental relations services to the Chief Executive to assist in meeting the overall AGD objectives. The AGD promotes justice by protecting the rights of all South Australians, holding people to account according to the law, improving safety, and contributing to an efficient and fair justice system.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

  • To be eligible to apply, applicants must be admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
  • Applicants must clearly state within their CV their current admission status/expected admission status.
