As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-months / or 6-months allocation to Chronic Pain Advanced Trainee will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

About the role

The Chronic Pain Registrar provides a state-wide specialist service within the Chronic Pain Unit under Consultant supervision. The role delivers high-quality, multidisciplinary clinical care to patients referred for chronic pain management, while contributing to teaching, research, clinical audit and service improvement. Working as part of an academic and clinical team, the Registrar supports person and family-centred care and evidence-based practice across WCHN.

Key duties of the role

• Provide safe, high-quality clinical care to patients referred to the Chronic Pain Unit within a multidisciplinary model.
• Communicate effectively with health care providers to ensure continuity of care across services.
• Participate in clinical meetings, peer review, audit activities and development of clinical guidelines and protocols.
• Contribute to quality improvement, safety initiatives, performance appraisal processes and service development.
• Support teaching, supervision of junior staff and involvement in departmental education activities.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent and eligible for Medical Board of Australia registration.
• Strong communication skills with ability to engage effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills in a complex clinical environment.
• Commitment to patient-centred care, quality improvement, safety and professional standards.
• Experience in delivering safe, high-quality care aligned with national safety and quality standards.
