As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Advanced Trainee Clinical Genetics will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Advanced Trainee in Paediatric Clinical Genetics contributes to the provision of clinical genetics services within the Paediatric & Reproductive Genetics Unit (PRGU) at WCHN. Working under supervision, the role provides inpatient and outpatient care, supports multidisciplinary collaboration, and contributes to teaching, research and quality improvement activities. The position supports advanced specialty training toward FRACP completion.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide supervised inpatient and outpatient clinical genetics care within the PRGU.
  • Coordinate follow-up care and maintain accurate, high-quality clinical documentation and reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors and laboratory staff.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional development and clinical education activities.
  • Contribute to research, clinical audit and continuous quality improvement initiatives within the Unit.

Skills and Experience

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completion of RACP Basic Paediatric Training and progression to Advanced Trainee level.
  • Sound clinical and patient management skills appropriate to level of training.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills within multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to change and meet FRACP training requirements.
