About Us

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is responsible for protecting the South Australian community from the effects of fire, road crashes, chemical incidents and other emergencies. We are a team of approximately 1,300 operational personnel and corporate professionals serving the Community across 20 metropolitan and 17 regional fire stations.

About the role

The Learning Designer plays a key role in shaping high-quality, contemporary learning across the MFS. Working under broad direction, you will lead the design, development and review of nationally accredited training programs that build the capability of our operational workforce.

You will apply expertise in adult learning and instructional design to develop clear, engaging and effective curriculum aligned to the Public Safety Training Package and 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This includes working closely with subject matter experts to translate operational knowledge into structured, compliant training and assessment, and analysing learning needs and performance requirements to ensure training is fit for purpose and aligned to the target audience.

Collaborating with internal stakeholders and Learning and Development colleagues, you will contribute to maintaining high standards in program design and supporting consistent approaches to training across the organisation.

About you

You are an experienced learning design professional with a strong track record in developing nationally accredited training programs in collaboration with subject matter experts.

  • Demonstrated, substantial experience designing and developing accredited training and assessment within an RTO or similar regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to work closely with SMEs to translate technical or operational expertise into structured, compliant and effective training solutions.
  • Strong understanding of training package requirements and the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
  • Well-developed instructional design skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging and learner-focused resources across a range of formats, including digital, print and other delivery mediums.
  • Experience reviewing and improving existing programs to ensure quality, consistency and compliance.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver within timeframes.

You will also hold relevant qualifications in adult or vocational education, including a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent).

ASO6
$102,171 - $108,071
