The Department for Infrastructure and Transport plays a vital role connecting people and places in South Australia by managing roads, marine and public transport networks across the State, and builds and maintains the State-owned infrastructure that enables the delivery of essential and important government services to our community. 

The Opportunity 

The TMC Operator monitors traffic control and reporting systems, enabling early responses to incidents to minimise disruption. The role involves coordinating with emergency services, confirming incident details, supporting asset requests, and providing real‑time traffic information to media and the public. Operators play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow across the South Australian road network, contributing to effective day‑to‑day traffic operations.

About you 

You communicate clearly and respectfully, maintaining confidentiality and understanding customer needs. You manage high workloads with accuracy and meet deadlines consistently. You work under general direction, using initiative to plan, prioritise and follow procedures. You are comfortable working in a high technology environment and show proficiency using different IT systems. You bring relevant knowledge of government programs and legislation and are self-motivated, resilient and solution‑focused. You analyse information to solve problems and contribute positively to a collaborative, supportive team environment.

Special Conditions

  • A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
  • Some intra / interstate travel may be required, involving overnight absences when required.
  • The Traffic Management Centre operates on a-24-hours a day, 7 days a week basis, including public holidays, and the incumbent is required to work shiftwork and may include occasional short notice out of hours work.

Tenure of Vacancy
Temporary appointment up to (12) Months 

Remuneration
ASO3 - $71,589 to $76,033 pa + superannuation.
