About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Government and Administrative Law Group (GALG) in the Public Law Section (PLS) of the Crown Solicitor’s Office which is led by Executive Solicitors Melanie Cattonar and Sean O’Flaherty.

The successful applicant can expect to build a wide advice and representation practice on a wide variety of legal matters, including matters that contribute to significant State government priorities and reforms, for the whole of South Australian Government, including Ministers, Departments statutory authorities and other instrumentalities. Solicitors in GALG provide advice on administrative law, statutory interpretation and broader public law issues, and are given opportunities to conduct litigation, including as counsel, in a number of courts and tribunals, particularly in the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court. Applicants for a role as LEC4 Senior Solicitor would also perform a mentoring and leadership role within GALG, working closely together with junior solicitors as their matter manager, settling work and providing strategic guidance.

The successful applicant will bring to GALG an enquiring legal mind, a willingness to contribute in a positive team-based manner and an ability to thrive in a busy practice with an engaging representation/advice mix. The successful applicant will also derive the benefit of an emphasis on constructive leadership and mentorship with a directed and considered attention to performance and career growth. Options for flexible working arrangements, excellent physical facilities including end-of-trip facilities, and a thriving social environment in PLS also serve as additional reasons to apply.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact either Melanie or Sean to discuss their interest.
