About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Officer to join our team. In this role, you will take ownership and be responsible for the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company policies. You will play a key role in improving payroll processes and supporting both employees and management with payroll-related queries.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for accurate and timely processing of AFCT payroll in compliance with Australian workplace laws, including the Fair Work Act, ATO requirements, and superannuation obligations.

This role is responsible for ensuring that all payroll-related data is accurately maintained, employee entitlements are correctly calculated, and statutory obligations such as PAYG withholding, and superannuation contributions are met.

The Senior Payroll Officer also acts as the key point of contact for all payroll queries, helping to maintain employee confidence and trust in payroll processes while contributing to the overall efficiency and integrity of the Finance functions.

Beyond processing, the role also plays a critical part in maintaining employee records, managing payroll systems, supporting reporting requirements, and looking for ways to continually improve payroll processes.

  • Manage and process end-to-end payroll for employees across fortnightly cycles
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant awards, enterprise agreements, and legislative requirements
  • Interpret and apply payroll-related legislation, including tax, superannuation, and leave entitlements
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare reports for finance and management
  • Manage payroll system updates, maintenance, and improvements
  • Handle complex payroll queries and provide expert advice to staff and stakeholders
  • Assist with audits and ensure accurate record-keeping
  • Manage, mentor and support the assistant payroll officer

 Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior payroll position
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements (SA Government an advantage)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with MicrOpay (payroll system)
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity
