The Opportunity 

The Communications Engineer is part of a collaborative team within the Passenger Information and ICT section of the South Australian Public Transport Authority. In this role, you will provide specialist technical advice, services and systems engineering support to ensure the reliability, safety and long-term performance of Passenger Information and ICT infrastructure.

You will collaborate closely with service providers, technical specialists and stakeholders to deliver expert advice, review projects and ensure compliance with relevant standards, policies and legislation. Your work will contribute to the planning, assurance, management of operational critical assets support complex projects and work packages for a range of infrastructure works including future improvements across a range of technologies and systems’ applications.

About you

You are technically skilled and solutions-focused professional. You work effectively with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong initiative, coordinating and delivering complex programs, projects and services. You apply sound technical expertise and knowledge of relevant standards, policies, legislation and risk frameworks. You have well-developed and strong understanding in electronics and operational communications areas.

You excel at planning, prioritising and managing competing demands, both independently and collaboratively, ensuring deadlines and project objectives are consistently met. Your experience includes coordinating and supporting the delivery of technical services within complex organisations, conducting specialised investigations, analysing data, applying sound methodologies to inform decision-making and deliver customer focused outcomes.

With your specialised skills, you provide responsive, high-quality advice and recommendations that support the delivery of large-scale technical programs. You develop and adapt standardised methodologies, manage and maintain accurate records, fostering continuous improvement and implement practical solutions with urgency through collaboration with teams and stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications / Licences  

  • A degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications or Information and Communication Technology) providing eligibility for membership of institution of engineer, Australia.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.

Special Conditions

  • A National Police Check (NPC) which is required to employment with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and is required to be renewed every three years.
  • This position has been identified as a Rail Safety Worker and has been classified as a Category 3 Non-safety Critical Worker and will be subject to periodic health assessments as per Rail Safety National Law.
  • All Rail Safety Workers must carry out their duties in accordance with the Rail Safety National Law 2012 and in keeping with the Rail Commissioner’s Safety Management System.
  • Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
