About the Role:
We are seeking an Ecologist to play a key role in the conservation and management of South Australia's threatened species and ecological communities. This is an opportunity to apply your scientific, technical and policy expertise to provide sound advice and deliver improved conservation outcomes across the state.

As Ecologist, Threatened Species and Ecological Communities, you will contribute to the administration and development of relevant policy and legislation, and provide expert advice to inform translocation, recovery planning, permit applications, development assessments, briefings and other threatened species conservation and management issues.

You will also work in partnership with a range of staff and stakeholders to support effective information sharing, collaboration, and program delivery.

Contract: 
Contract for up to 30 June 2027 

Essential Criteria (including qualifications):

  • A degree in the field of ecology, biodiversity management, natural resource management (or related field) is essential.
  • A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
  • Prior to being employed, the successful candidate will be required to provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), which is required to be renewed every three years. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
  • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.

A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.

Remuneration: 
PO2 $91,565 min - $106,074 max p.a.
