About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to work at the centre of government, providing high‑level legal and policy support within the Attorney‑General’s Office. The Ministerial Liaison Officer plays a critical role in delivering timely, accurate and strategic advice on complex and often sensitive legal, legislative and policy matters.

In this fast-paced environment, you will prepare and review Ministerial documentation, analyse legal advice and correspondence from key stakeholders, and support the Attorney-General’s engagement with Parliament and Cabinet processes. The role requires strong judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality outputs. You will also contribute to liaison across government and support decision‑making by ensuring information is accurate, relevant and presented to the highest standard. The role works under minimal supervision and is responsible for the supervision of a graduate lawyer.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide legal advice on legal policy, law reform, legislative and associated matters including highly complex and sensitive matters.

  • Review and prepare Ministerial briefs, correspondence, reports and submissions
  • Analyse and summarise legal advice and stakeholder materials
  • Support Parliamentary and Cabinet processes
  • Liaise effectively with Ministerial Offices, the Department and external stakeholders
  • Undertake confidential research and respond to emerging issues.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

  • Employment-related Screening Check required.
  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • Applicants must be admitted or eligible for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and have at least five years post admission experience.
  • Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain an unrestricted practicing certificate within South Australia
  • A flexible approach to leave in relation to fellow workers.
