About the Opportunity

SafeWork SA is seeking a highly organised and capable Executive Officer who thrives in a fast‑paced, responsive and high‑trust environment. This is a unique opportunity to work at the centre of the state’s work health and safety regulatory body and contribute directly to outcomes that protect the safety and wellbeing of South Australians at work.

Reporting within the Strategic Policy and Legislative Services Team, the Executive Officer provides high‑level, responsive and confidential executive support to the Executive Director and agency Directors. The role requires the exercise of sound professional judgement and discretion in prioritising matters, coordinating timely and accurate advice, and facilitating effective communication across the agency and with key external stakeholders, including ministerial offices.

The Executive Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient management of correspondence, briefings, diaries and sensitive matters, while maintaining strong working relationships across SafeWork SA, the Attorney‑General’s Department and external stakeholders. Success in this role requires initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and politically sensitive environment.

SafeWork SA is a business unit within Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for providing work, health and safety, public safety, and state-based industrial relations services across South Australia. As a regulator, our Investigators and Inspectors ensure work, health and safety, and public safety standards are met, and appropriate action is taken when breaches of laws are detected. We also help people better understand their work health and safety responsibilities.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
