Department for Correctional Services
Job reference: 839855
Location: 5085 - NORTHFIELD
Job status: Ongoing
Eligibility: Open to Everyone

Do you have a trade qualification, industry recognised qualification or a minimum 3 years industry experience and are seeking a career change?

The Department for Correctional Services offers excellent career opportunities as Correctional Industry Officers within industries workshops across all our prisons. These workshops operate like any business and provide prisoners with a structured day, vocational training, and a working environment that reflects community life. This approach promotes a strong work ethic and supports prisoner reintegration into the community.

There are Engineering, Woodwork, Metal, Spray Painting, and Signage workshops that produce a diverse range of high-quality products and services, including:

  • Structural steel and general metal fabrication
  • Custom-built skip bins, cages, and industrial equipment
  • Surface preparation and industrial spray painting and finishing
  • Timber products and outdoor infrastructure (e.g. benches, picnic tables)
  • Furniture design and production
  • Cabinetry and joinery
  • Signage design, production, and installation
  • Refurbishment and repair of commercial and industrial items
  • Custom manufacturing to client specifications

The Department partners with local South Australian businesses to seek products and services from our prison industries in supporting the employment and rehabilitation of prisoners.

This work is both highly rewarding and plays a vital role in the rehabilitation of prisoners. Through vocational training, individuals develop practical skills and hands-on experience in areas such as welding, joinery, and woodwork. Prisoners also have the opportunity to work towards recognised qualifications, including a Certificate II in Engineering and a Certificate II in Civil Construction, helping to prepare them for meaningful employment and a successful transition back into the community upon release.
