About the Role:
We are seeking a Native Vegetation
Officer to play a key role in protecting and
conserving South Australia’s native vegetation. This is an
opportunity to apply your scientific and technical expertise to
support the administration of the Native Vegetation
Act 1991 (SA) and Native Vegetation
Regulations 2017 (SA), contributing to environmentally
responsible decision‑making across the state.
In this role, you will work with government and
non‑government stakeholders to ensure the effective assessment,
management and regulation of activities impacting native
vegetation, helping to achieve sustainable environmental
outcomes.
As a Native Vegetation Officer, you
will:
- Contribute to the administration of
the Native Vegetation
Act and Regulations,
providing sound scientific and technical advice on the
protection, management and conservation of native
vegetation.
- Coordinate, manage and assess applications to clear
native vegetation in accordance with legislative
requirements.
- Provide expert advice to internal and external
stakeholders on the interpretation and application of
native vegetation legislation.
- Assist in the delivery of compliance activities,
including undertaking on‑ground assessments as
required.
- Support the Native Vegetation
Council, assessment panel, and departmental
groups by assessing native vegetation offset areas and
evaluating compliance with legislative conditions.

Essential Qualifications:
A degree in Environmental Science,
Natural Resources Management or other relevant discipline is
essential.
Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in responses to state
emergencies or associated duties.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or
provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows
you to work in Australia without restrictions.
- Prior to being employed, the successful applicant will be
required to obtain a National Police Check.
- A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness and
ability to drive is essential.
- May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel,
occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal
hours of work.
A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the
Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an
original photo identification document sighted and provide a
valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued
within the last 12 months.
Remuneration:
PO2, $91,565 min - $106,074 max p.a.
