The Opportunity

As part of the Northern Region team, the Lawyer or Senior Lawyer will specialise in providing family law services to clients of the Port Augusta and Whyalla regions.

Regional Family practice brings a unique opportunity to support vulnerable and often isolated people in contact with the family justice system. You will be given an exciting range of opportunities, with professional guidance and support, and you will grow as an experienced and confident practitioner. You can achieve this while being able to enjoy the benefits of country living at the doorstep of the Flinders Ranges and the Eyre Peninsula.

You will represent clients in receipt of legal aid and delivery quality legal services in relation to complex family law matters and act, as required, as children's representative in child protection proceedings. The Senior Lawyer will appear as an advocate in family and youth courts, including contested hearings or short trials in the Youth Court.

You will assist in providing general family law advice and information as a Legal Adviser where required as well as having the opportunity to engage with the community at various legal events held in the Northern Region.

Regional Incentives

  • A regional salary allowance of 15% of the per annum salary whilst employed in the Whyalla or Port Augusta role.
  • A $10,000 incentive payment for commencing a regional role, paid over the life of the contract.

  • Generous relocation assistance; including removalist expenses, one-way moving and travel costs, and short-term accommodation support.

Salary Range

Appointment will be made based on your experience at either the LSC2 or LSC3 classification.

LSC2: $90,080 - $101,620 per annum pro rata plus 15% allowance and 12% superannuation and leave loading.
LSC3: $115,959 - $126,492 per annum pro rata plus 15% allowance and 12% superannuation and leave loading.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Legal Services is able to offer its employees attractive salary sacrifice arrangements, including up to $15,900 pre-tax Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year for general living expenses.

Term of Employment

The role will be based at either the Port Augusta or Whyalla offices dependent on applicant preference. Travel across both offices may be required.

Ongoing Contract available at the LSC2 or LSC3 classification level, appointment will be made dependent upon experience.

What You Need for Success

The ideal candidate will:

LSC2:

  • Hold an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate or currently eligible to apply for an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate.
  • Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and High Court of Australia.
  • Possess a minimum of 2 years post admission experience.
  • Have private or public legal practice file management, time recording, and costing of files.

LSC3:

  • Hold an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate or currently eligible to apply for an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate.
  • Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and High Court of Australia.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years post admission experience.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of family law, child protection law, practice and the law of evidence in South Australia.
