About the Role:
As the Extension Officer, you will build and maintain strong
relationships with key stakeholders, bringing project and programs
to life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build meaningful partnerships –
Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with
internal teams and external stakeholders to enable the
successful delivery of projects and programs.
- Drive stakeholder engagement across South
Australia – Work closely with diverse
stakeholders to co-design and shape standards, guidelines, and
codes of practice that support best outcomes.
- Manage impactful grant programs –
Administer grant schemes with integrity and precision, ensuring
compliance with departmental policies, guidelines, and
procedures.
- Lead strategic planning and
delivery – Design and implement engagement,
extension, and compliance strategies that support the
department's legislative responsibilities.
- Coordinate projects from concept to
completion – Prepare and manage project
documentation including plans, risk frameworks, timelines, and
implementation schedules to ensure effective and timely
delivery.
- Provide trusted analysis and advice –
Co-ordinate and prepare high-quality briefings and reports, and
proactively identify risks and issues—delivering clear,
practical recommendations to support decision-making.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience building and maintaining effective
working relationships with a diverse range of
stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the
ability to engage professionally and with emotional
intelligence—remaining calm under pressure, listening to
different perspectives, and negotiating positive outcomes in
complex or sensitive situations.
- A high standard of written and verbal communication, with
experience preparing, structuring, and tailoring clear, concise
materials for a variety of audiences.
- An ability to analyse and interpret information, assessing
its relevance and implications to support sound decision-making
and contribute to timely outcomes.
- Capability to work with initiative and limited direction,
using sound judgement to manage competing priorities, solve
problems, and deliver results both independently and as part of
a team.
- An understanding of legislation, policies, and public
sector processes, and the ability to apply these in supporting
compliant and effective project and program delivery.

Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in responses to state
emergencies or associated duties.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or
provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows
you to work in Australia without restrictions.
- Prior to being employed, the successful candidate will be
required to provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal
History Check (NCCHC), which is required to be renewed every
three years. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness to
drive is essential.
- Will be required to undertake intra or interstate travel,
occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal
hours of work
A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the
Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an
original photo identification document sighted and provide a
valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued
within the last 12 months.
Remuneration:
ASO5, $89,007 min - $98,991 max p.a.
