The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Partnerships, the
General Counsel is a senior leader who works closely with and
provides expert legal and strategic advice to the Board, CEO
and Executive Team. The successful incumbent will ensure that
organisational decisions are legally sound, risk-informed, and
aligned with Legal Services' statutory purpose and values. They
will also provide strategic legal guidance on policy, practice,
and emerging trends to support informed decision-making,
mitigate risk, and enable the effective and efficient delivery
of services.
The General Counsel will be responsible for leading, managing
and supervising a high performing team of subject matter
experts on the delivery of legal, policy, compliance,
governance and risk management for Legal Services and oversee
the complaints and internal appeals functions and our insurance
program.

Remuneration Package
SAES1: $192,382 to $295,973 per annum
As a not-for-profit organisation, Legal Services is able to
offer its employees attractive salary sacrifice arrangements,
including up to $15,900 pre-tax Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year
for general living expenses.
Term of Employment
This is an executive role with an initial 3 year contract.
Part time hours (0.8 or above) will also be considered.
What You Need for Success
The ideal candidate will:
- be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South
Australia or currently eligible for admission to practice in
South Australia.
- be a collaborative and empathetic leader with outstanding
written and verbal communication skills, who can effectively
lead and motivate staff, while building and maintaining
productive relationships with a range of internal and external
stakeholders.
- be experienced in advising senior leadership on governance,
legal risk and compliance issues in a complex service delivery
environment.
