Opportunity

Defence SA is committed to increasing awareness of and participation in the defence and space sectors for people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island descent. This Defence SA internship program provides successful applicants with the opportunity to experience the defence and space sectors in South Australia and working in the public sector in a state government agency.

The objectives of the Defence SA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Internship Program are to:

1. Provide people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent with an opportunity to gain experience and build networks within the South Australian defence and space industries
2. Raise the profile of the defence and space industries in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities
3. Develop a pipeline of future Aboriginal and Torres Strait leaders within the defence and space industries in South Australia
4. Gain exposure to opportunities and an understanding of careers in the South Australian public service.

About You

The program is looking for people who:

• are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
• are keen to learn
• have a demonstrated interest in working in the defence and/or space industries
• have a minimum of basic computer literacy
• are at least 18 years of age
• are a resident of South Australia

Key Selection Criteria:

Successful applications must provide a written Outcomes Report within four weeks of the completion of their internship, detailing the outcomes achieved through the internship.

The Outcomes Report should address:

• the recipient’s objectives in undertaking the internship
• an outline of the recipient’s knowledge gained over the course of the internship
• an explanation of the benefit derived including how the applicant proposes to apply the learnings and knowledge gained for their future career aspirations

The program will provide on-the-job training and development, however, it is a requirement that you have completed one of the following:

• Year 12 (or equivalent)
• Year 10 (or equivalent) of schooling plus at least two years of work experience or further education

Special Conditions

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 60 days over a 12 month period. The incumbent is required to enter into an annual performance agreement.
