About the Role:

​The Murray-Darling Basin and Intergovernmental Unit in the Water Security, Policy and Planning Branch are seeking ASO5 and ASO6 Project and Policy Officers. This is a merit pool and successful applicants may be offered a role over the next 12 months based on business needs.

ASO5 Project and Policy Officer, Intergovernmental Relations

The Project and Policy Officer is responsible for policy advice and secretariat support for the implementation of Murray-Darling Basin water resource management. The position also contributes to the development and provision of policy and technical advice on South Australia’s interests in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) Joint Venture, inter-jurisdictional governance more generally and to progress projects initiated through the inter-jurisdictional committees, intergovernmental agreements and the Water Security, Policy and Planning branch. The Project and Policy Officer maintains effective working relationships with the Commonwealth and interstate intergovernmental units.

ASO6 Senior Project & Policy Officer

The Senior Project and Policy Officer is responsible for the provision of expert policy advice and the development and implementation of complex policy projects related to Murray-Darling Basin water resource management. The Senior Project and Policy Officer supports South Australia’s aspirations for Murray-Darling Basin water reform by providing high-level advice, analysis and policy input to complex and inter-related water policy issues in partnership with stakeholders at state and national levels. The role coordinates input from across the Water and River Murray Division, Regional Landscape Boards, technical specialists and other key stakeholders to provide advice to the Manager and Principal Policy Officers within the Murray Darling Basin and Intergovernmental team.

Contract: 
Contract period determined on offer. This is a pool and successful applicants may be offered a role over the next 12 months based on business needs.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.   
  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
  • May be required to undertake intra or interstate travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.

A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months.

Remuneration: 
ASO5 $89,007 min - $98,991 max p.a.

ASO6 $102,171 min - $108,071 max p.a.
