About the Opportunity

This role delivers a high‑quality, efficient, and timely forensic document examination service to the justice system of South Australia. The Senior Forensic Scientist – Document Examination independently coordinates complex casework, provides expert evidence in court, and serves as a recognised point of reference for forensic document examination expertise. The position also ensures compliance with quality and legal standards, and contributes to research, mentoring, and the advancement of best practice within the discipline.

 

About the Business

Forensic Science SA (FSSA) provides a comprehensive, coordinated range of services to agencies associated with the justice system including the State Coroner, South Australia Police (SAPOL), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and defence and civil litigants.

We are part of the Attorney General’s Department and the Director, FSSA reports to the Executive Director Finance, People and Performance. Within FSSA there are four scientific/medico-legal operational areas: Pathology, Chemistry, Biology and Toxicology, each analysing materials using a diverse range of scientific equipment and processes.

The operational areas are supported by Administration, Information Technology and Projects, Facilities and Services and Quality, who each provide underpinning services in support of the operational areas.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment-related Screening Check required.

Some out of hours work may be required.

Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.

A degree in a relevant scientific discipline.

Effectively embed AGD People and Leadership Expectations into all actions, activities and work processes.

Participate in bi-annual Performance Development Plan (PDP).

Proactively seek learning opportunities, including the timely completion of all mandatory training requirements.

Comply with the Code of Ethics for the South Australian Public Sector, relevant legislation and AGD policies and procedures.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate (NPC) and Extended Police Check (EPC) that the AGD finds satisfactory. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
