As a Financial Accountant within Shared Services SA, your work underpins the accuracy of financial reporting and the integrity of financial decision‑making across government agencies. By delivering timely advice, reliable reconciliations and compliant financial statements, you help agencies focus on delivering services that matter to the South Australian community, while supporting trust, confidence and robust governance across government.

About the Opportunity

You will provide high‑quality financial accounting and advice to SA Government agencies, supporting statutory reporting, reconciliations, general ledger, asset accounting and related services within Shared Services SA.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide professional accounting and financial management services, building strong, respectful relationships with SA Government clients.
  • Prepare financial statements and management reports for reporting entities in line with accounting standards and Treasurer’s Instructions.
  • Undertake transactional and core accounting activities, including journals, calculations, asset accounting, general ledger and complex reconciliations.
  • Review, prepare and analyse financial reports, ensuring the accuracy of system‑generated financial information.
  • Provide timely, accurate financial advice and analysis on complex financial management matters, supported by research where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, including process improvements, agile initiatives, documentation, systems enhancement and a positive, collaborative team culture.

Remuneration

ASO5 ($89,007 – $98,991 p.a.) + 12% Superannuation

About You

You’re a proactive accounting professional who enjoys solving problems and working collaboratively. You have:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, economics or equivalent, with eligibility for membership of a professional accounting body.
  • Proven financial accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements, complex reconciliations, asset accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting and governance frameworks, ideally within a government or complex organisation.
  • Experience providing high‑quality financial advice and analysis, contributing to process improvements, using financial systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Masterpiece) and Excel for reporting and modelling.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver clear, concise and professional advice.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative, strong time management, adaptability and a commitment to client service in a changing environment.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or supervising staff.
