The Opportunity

The Investigator Fruit Fly Response plays a key role in supporting the planning, delivery, review, and reporting of plant health programs, activities and outcomes while contributing to emergency response and compliance activities across South Australia. This is a hands‑on role focused on protecting plant health and biosecurity where every day counts.

You will be identifying, investigating and managing actions associated with actual or suspected plant pest incursions, ensuring activities relating to Biosecurity declared pests are effectively planned, coordinated, conducted and reported, and interpreting and enforcing the Plant Health Act 2009 while working closely with industry, stakeholders and other government agencies.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Australian residency or current work permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • Opportunity up to June 2026, with opportunity for extension.
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations.
  • Detection and/or outbreaks of fruit fly and other declared pests and diseases may occur anywhere in the state and at any time of the year. The incumbent will be expected to join the First Response Team (FRT) and may be required to be available to travel and work anywhere in the State at short notice, therefore a flexible approach to working significant and out of hours work will be required during outbreaks.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration

OPS4 - $79,432 min - $83,266 max per annum, plus superannuation
