Role Overview
The Director, Transport Insights is a senior leadership role that will guide the strategic direction for transport modelling, forecasting and analytical insight across the State. Reporting at an executive level, the role will provide authoritative, evidence-based advice to inform long-term strategy, system performance, policy development and investment decisions—supporting a future-focused, resilient and sustainable transport network. This will include assisting operational areas in working towards future strategic direction with transport insights.

This position will harness innovative and emerging approaches, data and technology to address complex, system-wide challenges and deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, safety and sustainability. The role leads a large, multi-disciplinary team and fosters a culture of excellence, collaboration and innovation aligned to the Department’s values and strategic objectives.

A key part of the role is innovation leadership and education, implementation Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence across the transport business and showcasing the "art of the possible" and enabling the Department to move from experimentation to measurable outcomes aligned with the Transport Strategy and Data and AI strategies uplift capability and accelerate delivery through partnering closely with engineering teams, information services teams and operational business teams.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
To succeed, you will bring exceptional analytical capability, sound judgement and political acumen, coupled with a strong outcomes orientation. You will demonstrate the ability to lead complex strategy at scale, align initiatives with State-wide priorities, and optimise transport network performance through detailed transport insights across both operational functions to future decisions on changes to the transport network. We are seeking an experienced and respected leader ready to make a lasting social and economic contribution to South Australia and to help shape the next chapter of the State’s transport future.
