If this sounds like you, we invite you to apply to join our dynamic team as an Evaluation Analyst to support the Commission’s work in evaluating the performance of regulated industries and providing evidence-based regulatory advice to protect the long-term interests of South Australians.

About the role

Reporting to the Director, Regulatory Performance and Advice, the Evaluation Analyst is responsible for analysing data and information to assess and explain trends in the performance of regulated industries and preparing high-quality reports and advice to support decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Data analysis and insights: Undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis to interpret trends in the operational and financial performance of regulated entities.
  • Reporting and communication: Prepare high-quality written materials including reports, briefings and presentations for a wide range of audiences.
  • Regulatory monitoring: Support the implementation and monitoring of performance reporting frameworks and service standards.
  • Market analysis: Analyse the structure, competitiveness, conduct and performance of regulated entities to inform regulatory insights and decision-making.
  • Policy and regulatory contribution: Assist in the review and development of regulatory instruments, including codes and guidelines.

About you

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical capability: Ability to undertake complex economic, financial or business analysis and apply sound judgement.
  • Effective communication skills: High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and proficiency in leveraging artificial intelligence to strengthen evidence-based decision making.
  • Legislative and regulatory knowledge: Experience in interpreting and working with legislation and other regulatory instruments.
  • Educational background: Tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, commerce or a related discipline, or at least five years’ equivalent experience.
  • Values-driven approach: A genuine commitment to the Commission’s core values: accountability, collaboration, agility, respect, and integrity.

The Commission is a statutory authority established as an independent economic regulator and advisory body to protect the long-term interests of South Australian consumers with respect to the price, quality and reliability of essential services. We add long-term value to the South Australian community by meeting our objectives through independent, ethical and expert regulatory decisions and the provision of robust advice to Government. Our role incorporates licensing, consumer protection, service standards, pricing, monitoring, compliance and public reporting in the water, electricity and gas industries, and access regulation of essential ports and rail infrastructure. We also provide advice and conduct Inquiries to inform the South Australian Government on economic and regulatory policy issues and provide advice to local government.

Special Conditions for Employment

  • Employment is dependent upon the provision of a National Police Certificate that the Commission considers satisfactory.
  • Some out of hours work may be required to meet critical deadlines.
  • Some intrastate and or interstate travel may be required.
