Full time uniformed Constable positions are currently available for:

1x Percussion / Drums

A rare opportunity exists for full-time, permanent and ongoing appointment as a Percussionist/Drummer in The Band of the South Australia Police, located at the Gepps Cross Police Complex. The successful applicant will be appointed as a Probationary Constable, with expected permanent appointment as a Constable after 12 months.

A member of The Band of the South Australia Police must be a professional musician and play their primary instrument/s to a professional standard, while always presenting a professional image when performing to and engaging with the community. The successful applicant will be required to display leadership, cultural sensitivity, and best practices in their approach to customer service.

A member of The Band of the South Australia Police is primarily required to perform in the Concert Band, and opportunities exist to perform in other ensembles as required as part of existing programs.

Members will also be required to perform and march as part of the Parade Band. Successful applicants will be instructed in marching drill and ceremonial procedures. The successful applicant will demonstrate a high standard of personal deportment and self-discipline, and a degree of personal fitness and resilience as performances may occur in all weather conditions.

All band personnel are shift workers and perform duties in evenings and on weekends as performances and other obligations require. Band members regularly travel to regional South Australia, and there may be requirement to travel interstate and overseas as necessary. Travel and meal allowances apply.

Percussionists will be required to perform on all tuned percussion, auxiliary percussion, marching percussion as well as being proficient on drum kit. Drum Corps are also required to memorise marches for ceremonial parades.

All band personnel are shift workers and perform duties in evenings and on weekends as performances and other obligations require. Band members regularly travel to regional South Australia, and there may be requirement to travel interstate and overseas as necessary. Travel and meal allowances apply.

Applicants prior to live auditions will be required to provide a high quality recording of 5 to 10 minutes demonstrating performance on tuned percussion, snare drum and drum kit. Copies of the sheet music will need to be submitted as part of the application.

Salary
$83,398 per annum during 12-month probation period

$86,125 per annum upon permanent appointment, rising to $102,491 over 7 annual increments.

A 10% allowance is paid on all hours worked, in lieu of penalty payments for specific shifts. Band members receive 6 weeks annual leave (20% leave loading applies) and all other police industrial entitlements.

Successful applicants will be subject to a probationary period for 12 months vide Section 27 of the Police Act 1998.

Auditions are proposed to be held 29 June to 1 July 2026 at the SAPOL Band Facility located in Gepps Cross South Australia.

You must either be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold Australian permanent residency to join SA Police. Musicians do not undertake operational police work. Probity and medical (including psychological/psychiatric) assessments form part of the South Australia Police recruitment process. Flexible working arrangements (including part-time arrangements) may be available.
