About the Opportunity

About the Roles:

Opportunities exist in the two customer-facing branches at the Public Trustee, Financial Administration Branch and Estate Services.

The roles provide a range of administration support services which contributes to the effective and efficient functioning of the Customer Services Branch.

Financial Administration Branch:

Financial Administration Branch administers the financial and legal matters of people who are unable to manage their own affairs, including managing bank accounts, investments, property and other assets.

The key aspects of the ASO2 Administrative Services Officer role include:

  • Answering telephones, taking messages and handling general queries
  • Photocopying documents.
  • Lodging documents and paying accounts at external agencies and organisations.
  • Opening new customer records and preparing appropriate standard letters for New Estates.
  • Liaise with external organisations as directed by the Personal Estates Officer
  • Provide high quality information and reception services to Personal Estates customers.

Estate Services:

Estate Services provides legal based administrative services to customers for trusts and deceased estates, including the provision of advice and liaising on real estate sales, taxation matters and the collection or transfer of estate assets.

The key aspects of the ASO2 Estate Services Officer role include:

  • Liaising with beneficiaries and customers to obtain information and arranging follow-up interviews to agree the administration process.
  • Consulting with beneficiaries and customers and customer representatives.
  • Instructing and providing relevant information to internal and external service providers.
  • Arranging for funerals and asset collections where required.
  • Provide professional services to Estate Service customers
  • Contribute to the operational efficiency of wills, trusts and the estate administration processes.

About the Business

The Office of the Public Trustee (Public Trustee) is a business unit of the Attorney-General’s Department.  The Public Trustee was established in 1881 and is constituted under the provisions of the Public Trustee Act 1995.

The Public Trustee plays an important role in managing the personal, legal and financial affairs of those people in the community who lack the capacity to manage their own affairs. The Public Trustee also provides eligible South Australians with access to Will making services, powers of attorney preparation and deceased estate and trust administration.

The Public Trustee is located in a prime CBD location, with offices looking out over Victoria Square. Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
