About the role

The Consultant will provide effective specialist paediatric surgical services across general paediatric surgery, neonatal surgery, burns and IV access. Delivers high-quality inpatient care, supports education, research and health promotion, fosters community networks, and promotes teamwork.

Key duties of the role

  • Provision of safe, effective and efficient general surgery service in accordance with the relevant standards set by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of adequate clinical records
  • Provide undergraduate and postgraduate training in the discipline of Paediatric Surgery
  • Support and promote research inside and outside the department
  • Support the development of practice guidelines, protocols and quality indicators

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registrations; or another qualification as defined in the SA Health Medical Officers Award.
  • Consultant Clinical experience in Paediatric General, Urology, Burns, Neonatal Surgery in a large public hospital
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to work with individuals and families for positive health outcomes and to foster productive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Experience in teaching at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
